Friday, December 29th 2023 4:30pm-7:30pm - 'Tis the Season of Wine Tastings with Dennis from Black Ankle

Albariño 2022 – Lemon, lime, and nectarine meld with a bit of melon and floral notes for beautiful complexity in the 2022 Albariño. This medium-bodied wine has a mineral and saline note that adds verve to the juicy citrus and stone fruit finish. Look for that signature creamy, honeyed note mid-palate.

Passeggiata 2022 – Passeggiata is made from Black Ankle’s bleed wine. Once the fruit is picked, destemmed, and crushed, the berries, juice, pulp, and seeds all go into a stainless-steel fermentation tank. Once the tanks are filled, their run off or "bleed" a portion of the juice. The bleed portion can be anywhere from 15% to 40% of the total juice volume. This bleeding process allows for a greater skin to juice ratio in their primary wine, which helps to increase depth, richness, and concentration. The bleed juice is put into a separate tank and is fermented cold and slowly, similar to how their whites are fermented. Once the main wine tank is drained, they put the bleed juice back into the tank for a second time so it can soak up all that the cap has to offer to create the foundation of their Passeggiata!

Rolling Hills 2020 – Blend: 38% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc, 17% Petit Verdot. Filled with dark fruit flavors of cherry, cranberry, and plum as well as earthy notes that express the soil in Black Ankle’s vineyard. This medium-bodied Bordeaux-style blend has a peppery finish and smooth tannins that keep you coming back for more.

Crumbling Rock 2020 – Blend: 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot. Smooth, full-bodied, and complex. It is juicy and delicious, boasting flavors and aromas of dark berries, cherry, plum, tobacco and pepper spice, and vanilla. Its smooth finish lingers on and on, enticing us to savor each sip. The mouthfeel is bold and rich, yet elegant and smooth. The perfect dinner table wine for your holiday dishes but will also only get better with age.

Terra Dulce IX – The Terra Dulce IX is a smooth, easy drinking sweet wine that would be perfect either before or after dinner. The sugar and alcohol are so nicely balanced that neither prevails over the other. There is no cloying feel on the palate, rather the wine has a rich, juicy feel to it. Terra Dulce IX shows oxidized aromas similar to Sherry. Aromas and flavors of raisins, dates, fig, almond, toffee, tobacco, and cocoa arise then segue into a long, lingering warm finish. Warm and toasty on the palate, great with an after-dinner cheese plate, or chocolate, this port-style wine is also a treat on its own.

Friday, December 22nd 2023 4:30pm-7:30pm - 'Tis the Season of Wine Tastings with Jay from Regal

Gran Moraine Brut Rosé, Yamhill-Carlton Oregon – 94 Points Wine Spectator. 57% Chardonnay, 43% Pinot Noir. 40% neutral French Oak, 60% stainless steel - minimum 24 months en tirage. Made using the traditional méthode champenoise, this Brut Rosé has aromas of strawberry shortcake, canned pear, white peach, lightly toasted brioche, rose petals.  Flavors flirt with tangerine, kumquat, nectarine on the finish with watermelon rind and lemon meringue pie.  Balanced fatness and acidity, vibrant and exceptionally clean all the way through to the finish, phenomenally precise “That rare domestic rosé that captures the vibrant acidity of Champagne, offering delicate strawberry, raspberry flavors laced with steely minerality and a sprinkle of graham cracker on the finish.” – Tim Fish, Wine Spectator.

Cambria Katherine’s Vineyard 2021 Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley Santa Barbara County CA – 94 Points Vinous Media, 91 Points Wine Enthusiast. Barrel-fermented giving it toasted oak, vanilla, and crème brûlée characteristics complemented by notes of citrus and baked apples. This white wine is known for its balance of oak and a refreshingly crisp finish. “The 2021 Chardonnay Katherine’s Vineyard is notable. Bright and chiseled, the2021 bristles with tension. Citrus peel, chamomile, white flowers, mint, and tangerine oil are some of the notes that grace this exquisite Santa Maria Chardonnay. Partial aging in steel keeps the flavor bright.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media.

Penner-Ash 2021 Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley Oregon – 92 Points James Suckling. The 2021 growing season started relatively warm and dry, with an early heat event in May. An abnormally cool front in June was followed by a major heat dome leading us into one of the warmest growing seasons on record. Warm temperatures continued throughout the summer and September rains gave the vines the last drink of water before harvest. 10 months in 30% new French Oak. Aromas of spiced raspberries and ripe Hood strawberries gently fold into warm vanilla oak. Rainier cherry and cocoa provide a savory sweetness and weight on the palate leading to a lengthy finish.

Captûre 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak Sonoma County CA – 93 Points Jeb Dunnuck. Philosophy: The desolate mountain slopes of the Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak AVA tower 1,600 to 3,000 feet above sea level in the rugged Mayacamas Mountains, where extreme conditions push vines to their limit. Captûre's vineyard sits atop this extreme slope that offers a new winemaking challenge and the chance to capture the next peak. Pine Mountain Vineyard: Capture’s Pine Mountain vineyard straddles the peak, a jaw-dropping 3,000 feet above sea level. The unforgiving mountaintop is dry with fine volcanic gravel and rocky patches offering no traction for anything but the hardiest grapevines. The clusters that survive here are few, small, and sparsely fruited – giving every tiny, thick-skinned berry the space to reach its full potential. This desolate place is planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller blocks of Merlot and the highest elevation Sauvignon Blanc in the U.S. Tasting Notes: Dark and brooding, the 2019 Cabernet is mysterious and full of power. Cassis, maraschino cherry and faint whiffs of cola start the journey. On the palate, a very generous amount of velvety mountain tannin is caressed into an almost endless finish. Some soft vanilla notes, more dense black fruit: black berry, cherry and cedary spice combine to entice another sip.

Maison Lispaul 2022 Sauvignon Blanc, Loire Valley France – 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Maison Lispaul is a family estate in the Loire Valley in Tracy sur Loire, in the heart of the appellation of Pouilly-Fumé, across the Loire River from Sancerre. From a 3-hectare declassified vineyard in Pouilly Fume. Thanks to the locality of the Loire River (the longest wild river in the country), the soil is rich in clay and limestone so produces high quality grapes. The limestone and flinty clay that are indigenous to the Pouilly-Fumé appellation give the wine its instantly identifiable smokey quality — hence the name “Fumé”. The Val de Loire IGP is made from 100% Sauvignon grapes at David and Shirley Maudry’s dynamic, young estate. The vineyards are 3-4 years old and are sustainably managed. The wine is fragrant, fresh, and juicy with a slight grassy edge. It is packed with zesty, citrus fruit and green apple flavors, and has a crisp finish.

Domaine de la Mordoree 2019 Lirac Rouge la Dame Rousse, Rhone France - 93 Points Wine Enthusiast. 50% Grenache, 50 % Syrah. Robert Parker Jr. of The Wine Advocate pinned Mordorée as "one of the world’s greatest wine estates"...the top cuvees of Châteauneuf-du-Pape are rare and expensive, but this is a place to find terrific Cotes du Rhones and Liracs as well. Delorme is equally adept at dry whites as well as reds and turns out some stunning roses both under the Cotes du Rhône and Tavel appellations...". This highly aromatic Lirac showcases ripe wild strawberries and black cherries atop aromas of crushed rose, clove, wild thyme, and fresh potting soil. The palate delivers perfectly ripe blackberries and plums with a sprinkle of black pepper, sitting prominently on a firm granitic layer. Brisk acidity gives balance to this rich wine.
