A Few of Our Favorites

Château Recougne Bordeaux Blanc 2010- This blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon comes from a hillside vineyard near Fronsac, 5 km from Pomerol. It is a light straw color with golden highlights. The nose is a fragrant blend of grapefruit and green apple. It is dry and very fruity, with a fresh crisp finish. Serve as an apéritif, with seafood, fish or white meats. $16.00

Lander Jenkins Chardonnay 2010- For those that like what oak brings to the glass we have Lander Jenkins. The 2010 Chardonnay highlights the best of their California vineyards with a blend of grapes from Lodi, Trinity and Napa Valley. This is a rich and balanced wine with characteristics of ripe, delicious stone fruits and crisp acidity. Cooler vineyard sites yield a Chardonnay with bright fruit flavors, while warmer sites give rich, ripe tropical flavors. There are aromas of apricot, peach cobbler and ruby red grapefruit. Flavors of apricots, baked peaches and citrus accent the creamy mouth feel and long finish. A super sipper this is also a good match for roasted chicken, grilled fish and pastas with cream sauce. $17.00

Weingut Johann Haart Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Kabinett 2009- For more than 650 years, the Haart family has cultivated vines and made wine in Piesport. Soil in the Goldtröpfchen vineyard is composed of soft, blue slate that adds a special mineral quality to the wine. The wine is mild yellow in color with a light greenish tinge. Persistent aromas of minerals and green apple carry through into the juicy and sweet palate. Strong minerality lingers into the crisp finish. $21.00

Lucky Star Pinot Noir 2009- Our Winemaker selected grapes from vineyards across some of California’s best growing regions for Pinot Noir, ranging from Sonoma County and Napa Valley to the Sacramento River Delta. Ripe red raspberry and cherry aromas carry through to the palate, balanced by a crisp yet silky finish. The wine pairs well with grilled chicken, Fusilli pasta tossed with extra virgin olive oil, fresh tomato and herbs or a rustic wood oven-fired pizza with wild mushrooms and Taleggio cheese. $12.00
Quinta de Cabriz Dao-In this is a blend of Alfrocheiro, Tinta-Roriz and Toruirga Nacional, each grape was vinified separately before being blended and aged. It was recently rated 90 points by Wine Spectator and ranked #42 on their Top 100 List. ” A well-structured, muscular red, with a touch of Asian spice to the wild plum and dried raspberry flavors. Beef and mineral notes mark the finish. It is distinctive, with a very sauvage allure.” $12.00

Layer Cake Malbec- The fruit for Layer Cake Malbec comes from a vineyard that is flanking the Mendoza River in Argentina; a rocky terrain, strikingly similar to that of Chateauneuf du Pape in the Rhône Valley. The climate is quite similar to that of the Napa Valley. Warm days are followed by cool evenings as the maritime breezes make it through the Andes Mountain ranges down to Mendoza Valley floor. The poor rocky soil makes the vines struggle which leads to better fruit. The grapes are not rushed, they were harvested nearly a month to six weeks after all other neighboring vineyards; a crucial element to the wine’s quality. Pure, rich and very elegant; this is a powerhouse of lush black fruit, silky cocoa, black spice and cream, wrapped around blackberry, cherry and ripe plum. Layered and complex with a nose to linger over, it has a finish that never ends. With sweet anise, hints of tobacco, black chocolate, more cherries and exotic spices, there are layers of jam. This wine will stand and perform anytime you think of a Cabernet and want something just a little more exotic. $18.00

Aia Vecchia Lagone Toscana IGT 2008- This affordable Super Tuscan has long been one of the best buys in the store and as in years past the critics agree with my assessment of the 2008 release. Wine Enthusiast rated it a 91 saying, “Lagone is a pleasurable and rich blend of Merlot, Cab Sauvignon, and Cab Franc that opens with rich, dark color and intense aromas of sweet spice, chocolate, cherry and tobacco. The wine feels chewy and smooth in the mouth with a long, velvety feel on the close. ” Wine Spectator says, “A full, velvety and juicy red, delivering lots of Christmas pudding and dried fruit character on the nose and palate. Best after 2011. 12,500 cases made. 90 points.” $22.00

2010 Saint Cosme Cotes-du-Rhone- This rare 100% Syrah Rhone has again scored 90 points from Wine Spectator, the previous vintage was on last year’s top wines of the year list. They say, “This has lush, silky-textured layers of dark plum, anise and crushed blackberry fruit, woven with black tea and graphite notes through the finish. Impresses with its length and depth. Drink now through 2012″ The winemaker Louis Barruol says, “Watch out 2010: this is purely my best Cotes du Rhone since 2007, without a doubt.
